Member of the IBEC Board Boyko Kotzev was awarded by His Holiness Neophyte, Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and Metropolitan of Sofia, Order of St. Cyril and Methodius of the First (Golden) Degree.
This is one of the most honorable church awards in Bulgaria. The Order was established in 1969 in connection with the 1100th anniversary of the death of Equal-to-the-Apostles Kirill. Historically, the award refers to the Order of Cyril and Methodius, established in 1909, the former highest state award of the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
The Order was awarded for "a huge contribution to the development of relations between the Bulgarian and Russian Orthodox Church, a number of important initiatives aimed at the development of spirituality in both states." Before being appointed to IBEC, Mr. Kotzev held the post of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation.
